น้ำตกมณฑาธารมีชื่อเรียกอีกอย่างหนึ่งว่าน้ำตกสันป่ายาง เป็นน้ำตกที่สวยงามแห่งหนึ่งในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติดอยสุเทพ ปุย มีความสูงกว่าระดับน้ำทะเลประมาณ 730 เมตร และมีทั้งหมด 9 ชั้น โดยมีน้ำตกไทรย้อย เป็นน้ำตกชั้นสูงสุด ที่ไหลมาจากห้วยคอกม้า แล้วไหลไปสมทบกับน้ำตกมณฑาธาร ผ่านผาเงิบ วังบัวบาน น้ำตกห้วยแก้ว ก่อนที่จะไหลลงสู่แม่น้ำปิง ส่วนที่มาของน้ำตกนั้นมาจากต้นมณฑา ซึ่งเป็นไม้ยืนต้น ดอกสีขาว ใบใหญ่ สีเขียวจัด เห็นได้ทั่วไปตามข้างทาง ลักษณะของน้ำที่ตกลงมาแยกจะออกเป็น 2 สายเล็กๆ แล้วไหลลงสู่แอ่ง ก่อนจะผ่านลานหินลงไปชั้นที่ 1 อยู่ห่างจากน้ำตกห้วยแก้วประมาณ 3 กิโลเมตร
